European Accounting Association (EAA)

But what exactly is the EAA and what does it do? In this article, we will explain the meaning and purpose of the EAA clearly and concisely. What is EAA?

The EAA is a professional organization that supports and develops the accounting community in Europe. It was founded in 1977 and currently has over 4,000 members from more than 60 countries. The EAA’s mission is to promote and disseminate high-quality accounting research, share best practices in accounting education, and create opportunities for academics to interact with accounting professionals and regulators.

The EAA organizes various activities and events to achieve its mission, such as:

  • The EAA Annual Congress: This is the largest and most prestigious accounting conference in Europe, where accounting scholars and students present and discuss their latest research findings, network with peers and experts, and attend workshops and plenary sessions. The EAA Annual Congress is held every year in a different European city, attracting more than 1,000 participants from around the world. The next EAA Annual Congress will be held in Bucharest, Romania, in May 2024.
  • The EAA Doctoral Colloquium: This is a pre-conference event that provides doctoral students with an intensive and constructive feedback on their research projects, as well as guidance and advice on their academic careers. The EAA Doctoral Colloquium is held every year before the EAA Annual Congress, involving about 40 selected students and 20 senior faculty members. The next EAA Doctoral Colloquium will also take place in Bucharest, Romania, in May 20242.
  • The EAA Accounting Resources Centre: This is an online platform that offers a variety of resources and services to support accounting research and education, such as journals, books, databases, podcasts, webinars, and teaching materials. The EAA Accounting Resources Centre is accessible to all EAA members and non-members, and is constantly updated with new and relevant content3.
